Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question for me? The answer is likely here.

Web site and Social Media:

Why is your “About Me” bio so sarcastic and self-deprecating?

Well, that is easy to answer. I am a voracious smart ass. On the humor of it, I find author bios intrusive and conceited. Writers like me want to stay as invisible as possible. We want you interested in our work, not us. Yet, the industry requires a personal touch that connects us to the reader. Thus, we write short bios talking about the one thing we dread to discuss. When I wrote the original one back in 2018, the only way I got more than a sentence or two, was to take the living piss out of the process. My editor at the time ended up laughing for five minutes straight, and I knew I had what I wanted. That being true representation of who I am and what I want to accomplish. I am here to entertain you with words.

Why don’t you write a lot of blog entries, post anecdotes, or pictures?

Most of the time, watching paint dry is more entertaining than my day-to-day life. Again, this goes back to wanting my books to be in the forefront. However, I might discuss some of my favorite books, games, and movies. Also, I will be cleaning up older entries so they read better. Hell, if the mood strikes me, I might sarcastically make a food post.

Who made your site? Words and pictures are off-center and there are a lot of different fonts in places.

I did! It’s a process, and hopefully I will correct it all, eventually.

I direct messaged you on Facebook/Instagram/X/Bluesky. Why haven’t you replied?

Don’t take it personally, please. I receive a lot of spam and made it a rule not to respond to anything unless I know the person outside of the proverbial office.

Can you look over my story?/Do you take story suggestions?

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. To clarify: For legal reasons cannot accept them. So please don’t send any. If you do, they will be sent to the trash can, and I may add you to my junk folder.

The Vampire’s Holiday

When did you start writing The Vampire’s Holiday?

The original rough draft was first penned way back in February of 2014. After three years of redrafts and changes, what is recognizable as Holiday was finished in late 2017.

Who did the cover for The Vampire’s Holiday?

Scott Deyett is the awesome artist behind the cover.

Why do I see a book you wrote named “The Goddess’ Respite: Book I of the Goddess Chronicles”, but I can’t buy it anywhere?

The Vampire’s Holiday and The Goddess’ Respite are different editions of the same book. Respite was its original name and circulated from 2018-2022 under two different version. There is the 2018 edition with the Helen Jones cover and the 2019-2022 version with the Dawné Dominique cover. Aside from the covers, there are editorial differences in the text between the two.

After 2022, the book went through a full cover-to-cover reedit as well as a rewrite of some sections. Specifically, the Chapter Four scene between James and Issy at the diner was updated, breaking up a chapter into two pieces, and the inclusion of a new chapter at end. The overall story and plot have not changed.

I live in the Michiana area and your landmarks, buildings, or streets are totally off. Explain yourself!

The Michiana of the book series is an idealized one aka fictional based off my memories. I do pester people on updates and significant changes when I notice them on Google Earth to keep a sense of realism. However, what you’re reading is mostly how I viewed my home turf in 1999.

Why did you choose Niles, Michigan of all places to write about?

The simplest answer is: it’s what I know. The more complex one goes like this. Why not? Stephen King has Castle Rock and Maine. Jim Butcher has Chicago for the Dresden Files. I wanted an area that hasn’t been touched on and allows room for expansion. It’s a lot of fun to have a fictional Niles, South Bend, and Mishawaka to play in. Ultimately, making it in my home town cut out of a lot of the work to research out an area I’m not as familiar with.

Why is The Vampire’s Holiday only available on Amazon? I hate Amazon!!

For the time being, I am exclusively on Amazon for Kindle Unlimited. However, that will change and I will distribute more widely in the future.

Miscellaneous

Hey, we used to hang out back in the day! Is <insert character> based off me?

Wow, you think rather highly of yourself, don’t you? :D

Okay, jerk! Why did you <insert action> to <insert character>? Why??

I feed off your tears and require substance.

When can we expect the next book?

Soon*

*The word soon should not be seen as a real commitment or realistic expectation that the next book will be released in the near future. Instead, it is a qualifier that denotes that it will be released sometime between now and the end of time. Thank you for your understanding.

Do you have other projects besides the Goddess Chronicles?

In fact, I do! They are still in draft mode though. Eventually, I will give them more attention.

What are you working on right now?

As of April 23, 2025, I am working on the final draft of The Witch’s Cradle. That is the next book in the Goddess’ Chronicles. I also have a rough draft of Book 3 written out, and an ever-growing pile of notes for Book 4. Book 3 does have a working title, Until the [k]Night. Non-TGC related, I have a 35,000-word or so rough draft that is about three-quarters of the way finished.

Are you going to be showing up in a book store near me?

Probably not. I am handicapped, and have mobility issues. Aside from that, I have crippling imposter syndrome and social anxiety issues. One day I will overcome, but not anytime soon*.

Can you sign my copy of the book for me, please??

At present, I don’t have a mechanism in place to facilitate this sort of thing.

You’re a gamer, huh? What consoles do you like? Playing anything?

My wife and I have Nintendo Switches and PCs. We’ve never tried Xbox, and stopped trying to keep up with the Playstations once Steam started getting access to console games. As for games, I just finished up Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and slowly playing Legend of Zelda – Echoes of Wisdom. In between that and work, I play Final Fantasy XIV.
